Menil and Her Heart

Following the disappearance of her younger sister Menil, Nesune and her family struggle to come to terms with life without her. Has Menil, the budding singer/songwriter, simply left the Cahuilla Reservation to chase her dream, or has her restless spirit been doused and stolen? In her grief, Nesune is visited by a not quite human guide and thrust on an interdimensional journey in the hopes of being reunited with her missing sister. Here, Nesune is immersed in the old stories that had become buried in her memory long ago. When Nesune is guided to the star world she is faced with an impossible decision. Will she return home to her family, or will she choose to sacrifice her life on Earth to stay amongst the stars with her sister. Inspired by three traditional Cahuilla stories, Menil and Her Heart tells the story of a young Indigenous woman who was not taken but instead chose to stay.
