Film Projects
In 2020 Sophia Madrigal wrote and directed the short film Wildflower Indigenous Spirit. Sophia wrote this film during the pandemic in response to Indigenous peoples’ being disproportionately affected by Covid-19. This film has reached over 10,000 people.
In 2023, Isabella was selected as a Culture Bearer By the Center for Cultural Power. Isabella received a grant to produce the short film version of Menil and Her Heart, which she will direct in December of 2024. The short film is intended to serve as a proof of concept, showcasing the story’s cinematic potential for a full-length feature production.
Story Workshops
In 2019, Isabella Madrigal led a Performance Art and Storytelling Workshop with the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center in preparation for the first performance of her play Menil and Her Heart. In 2020 Sophia Madrigal led the eight week Healing Through the Indigenous Art of Storytelling Workshop series and The Art of Duality six week workshop series. In 2023 Isabella and Sophia Madrigal collaborated with the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center again to run an eight week Pre-Text Workshop Series. Each session followed the Pre-texts Curriculum developed at Harvard University: use a text as a material to make art. This methodology was used to foster Indigenous language learning among intergenerational participants, through sharing and analyzing cultural stories and songs.
